Leading German car manufacturers Mercedes-Benz and BMW issued a statement here Thursday slamming the alleged recent lurid behaviour of FIA president Max Mosley as “disgraceful”.

FRANKFURT -(Dow Jones)- Daimler AG (DAI) said Friday that March sales at the Mercedes-Benz Cars unit were up 3.5% on the year at 131,500 vehicles after 127, 000 in the same period last year.

The German carmaker Daimler said on Friday that March sales by its Mercedes-Benz division rose by 3.5 percent to 131,500 vehicles from the equivalent figure in 2007 with a boom by the Smart car.

Vehicle sales at Daimler AG’s premium Mercedes-Benz Cars division increased by 3.5 percent in March to 131,500 million units, helped by its workhorse Mercedes-Benz C-Class model and its Smart minicar.

The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team finished today’s second practice session in 3rd and 4th places. Heikki set a time of 1:32.752 whilst Lewis did 1:32.847. There was a bit of drama towards the end of second practice when Lewis touched a kerb and lost control of the car and went into the barrier.
